Did they think she was the Slayer or something? I for some reason only noticed this when I watched it a week ago (and I first saw the movie 2 Christmases ago when I got it). I never understood that part. If they did think it was her, what was their reasoning?

They "got" her because they are vampires, and that's what they do. We humans are their prey, or their slaves at best.
The thing about the vampires I still don't get is why they chose Los Angeles. Sure, they didn't know the Slayer was there, but for what other reason? Did they need a large city to hide out in? Or did they figure that L.A. street life is so weird, they'd hardly be noticed?
