Didn't Joss hate this director?
Fran Rubel Kuzui directed this film, and Joss says his script was FUBAR. That should mean he hates her guts, but she ended up producing the entire Buffy and Angel series. What's up?

shareTo quote Kill Bill, "Just because I don't like you, shouldn't suggest that I don't respect you."
"'When you are grown up and very lonely, you will understand. Love, Uncle Fester.'....He's a dead man."
Huh.
But you're sure this is the actual person who he holds responsible for ruining his script? It wasn't a producer on the set, or the actors (apart from Sutherland), or that the actual director went uncredited or something...
This might answer your question. Per Wikipedia:
"Fran Rubel Kuzui and her husband, Kaz Kuzui, were also credited as executive producers throughout Angel, but were not involved in any writing or production for the show. Jeffrey Bell mentions in his DVD commentary during the closing credits of the Angel series finale "Not Fade Away" that two people were credited and paid for Angel without needing to ever step on the set. Angel crew member Dan Kerns also revealed in an essay that two executive producers "received credit and sizeable checks for the duration of Buffy and Angel for doing absolutely nothing". Their credit, rights and royalties for the whole Buffy franchise, which includes spin-off Angel, relate to their funding, producing and directing of the original movie version of Buffy."[/b]
Basically Joss & co had no choice. When they bought his original script they also bought the rights to any sequels or spinoffs.
shareJoss also hated Donald Sutherland. He said that he is a big reason why the movie was so bad.
I don't know if I agree, since Donald Sutherland is a great actor and I thought his part as the Watcher was great!
However, he has been known to be quite difficult on set and Directors have often complained that he improv's the script as he pleases. So, I can see where he may be frustrating to deal with.

If an actor has problems with a script they probably shouldn't take the job.
shareI don't think I've ever seen a bad Donald Sutherland performance so maybe his instincts deserve to be trusted.
