A bit confused

I watched this on TV recently and I was left a bit confused. It may have been because I missed the first 5-10 minutes but can anyone explain:

1) What Lothos wanted with Buffy - it seemed like he wanted her to be his vampire bride yet he'd come across plenty of slayers before. It seemed they all fell under his spell so wouldn't he have had hundreds of slayer turned vampire wives?
2) The interaction between Lothos and her Merrick in the junkyard - it honestly came across as though they were in cahoots with one another. You'd think Buffy would have been suspicious.
3) What on earth was with the music? If silence was all that was needed to break out of his trance then why was it so crucial that she knew and understood this? Surely she'd have come out if automatically, as would the other slayers.

Lothos' interest in Buffy is not personal. This is just the gimmick that he uses on all of the slayers to turn them in to vampires. I highly doubt that he has ever had a wife. Lothos is the king of the vampires, so of course he is going to be obsessed with every slayer until she is no longer a threat. In the junkyard Merrick tries to distract Lothos with an odd approach to save Buffy. Lothos hypnotizes Buffy and Merrick knows that the latest slayer will be lost if he does not intervene. Buffy needs to be aware of Lothos' intentions the instant that she gets out of his temporary grip so that she can escape and have a chance to fight efficiently. If she doesn't know what to expect, she'll only get captured again and perhaps become a vampire.

I just want to point out that after reading the entire sign on the featured fence, I know that the aforementioned scene does not take place in a junkyard. It's a storage section for the town's parade floats.
