Significance of ponzy scheme?

Eva's party celebrating the "success" of the ponzi scheme is a subtly chilling early episode of the film which Benny continuously revisits by watching over and over on his monitor screen. Benny and Eva's parents celebrate their daughter's fraudulent activity and congratulate her as a successful businesswoman. Benny associates such economic exploitation with success, excitement, and fun because he only experiences the event through the images he filmed of the decadent party. He probably isn't aware of the real implications of the "game" and the fortunes lost and the lives ruined. Benny is fascinated by this image of wildly successful capitalism demonstrated by the party and further motivated by his parents' endorsement of Eva's "business savvy" without expressing any moral reservations.

The pyramid scheme acquires greater significance when Benny duplicates the scheme at his school. This is the first indication to the audience of Benny's capacity to reproduce the unethical behavior he experiences through media. Basically, it demonstrates his lack of ethical filters and increasing detachment from reality while also serving to indicate the moral bankruptcy of his authority figures.
