I have noticed from two shots (one from Vertigo and another from Basic Instinct) that white dress and hair looks so similar.

Was that plan or coincidence?

Watch the Behind the Scenes videos on the internet or on the DVD. It was intentional. Verhoeven wanted to imitate Hitchcock. Of course you'll note that both took place in San Francisco, also.
