The dialogue

Is it just me, or does it sound like what a writer might spill into a hurried first draft, before going back and making it clever?

Eszterhas boasted that he wrote this multimillion-dollar screenplay in less than two weeks.

Sure sounds like it.

I heard worse dialogue from George Lucas, at least
(though it's funny Eszterhas to always have some character in his screenplays - Basic Instinct, Sliver - say "You like to play games, don't you?")

I assume you mean Star Wars as far as George Lucas's work goes. Star Wars can sort of get away with bad dialogue to a degree though cause it takes place in a galaxy far away, where people may talk like that in that world.

But this dialogue takes place in modern America, so it's tougher to swallow.
