This whole remake thing....(possible spoiler)

Herzog has said he hasn't even seen the original, or for that matter any Ferrara movie. He says the only connection is that the movie focuses on a corrupt cop, and that's it.

But by what I see in the trailers the story does seem reminiscient of the '92 Lieutenant.........if Nicholas sees Jesus and then smokes crack with the men he's trying to arrest I'm going to nut up.

If it's just about a corrupt cop it could have all sorts of different titles to it. Why name it Bad Lieutenant if it's 'not a remake'.

Whatever, check this out. In the early 80's Keitel played a lieutenant in a movie called "Corrupt Lietenant"......what the hell dude?!

The title CORRUPT LIEUTENANT was just a marketing ploy -- a video box title to get people to associate this early bent cop part with the more famous Keitel bad lieutenant role. The film's real title is just CORRUPT, although like many B-movies, it has another title: ORDER OF DEATH. It's actually a pretty good flick, and needs a proper DVD release, not the cheapo versions that are out there right now.

Herzog is simply returning Ferrara's attitude to him. Herzog made those comments in response to Abel Ferrara's assertion that he wished everyone involved in the Bad Lieutenant remake would all get on the same boat and have it explode, or something to that effect.

All of the original writers of the original Bad Lieutenant script have credits, so there is no way that Herzog is not at least familiar with the original screenplay, even if he hasn't watched the film. This is simply banter between two egotists trying to trump one another in the press surrounding the remake. Both men are auteurs in their own rights, they are just from different sides of the same street.
