Something I am wondering.....

I only seen this movie once.... today actually. I really enjoyed it a lot, like many I thought Harvey Keitel was awesome in this movie. The one thing I dont understand or maybe i missed is why did he drive the two rapists to the bus station, give them the 30 grand and tell them to leave town? Was it because being that nun forgave them and he wanted to find some redemption so he forgave them also? Its the only thing I really couldnt figure out. Any help on that whole sequence would be much appreciated... thanks.


Edit: After reading a whole lot of other posts I see that I pretty much had it figured out. Again.... great great movie.
