Schoolly D's 'Signifying Rapper'

Can anyone clarify if the track of my topic subject has been reinstated in Lions Gate's new special edition. It was removed from all previous DVD versions because it fell foul of a sampling copyright lawsuit.

Anyone know if it's back in there?

EDIT: Answered my own question here. I watched the Lions Gate DVD and it's identical to Artisan's earlier release.

That's too bad. Get the LIVE release and capture and encode it to DVD. I can't imagine this movie without that song. It's SO ESSENTIAL to the tone of the film.

Hi chris-2512, is the ‘Live’ release a bona fide release or did you mean a live performance of Signifying Rapper?

reply

LIVE is a video distribution company who released the original 1992 version on VHS.

Cheers.

reply

Aah, I see. Was a bit confused there because my VHS was released through a studio called 4 Front Video. Live must be the studio that released it in the States.

True... True!

Yeah, what's up, what's goin' on?

Before we start this next record

I gotta put my shades on

So I can feel cool

Remember that law

When you have to put your shades on to feel cool?

Well it's still a law, you gotta put your shades on, so you can feel cool

You know what I'm sayin'?

I'ma put my shades on, so I can see what you ain't doin'

And you ain't doin' nothin'… you ain't doin' nothin' that I don't see

Now let's get on with this s**t anyway…

Way… way down, in the ghetto Tee

The badass pimp stepped on the Signifyin’ Rapper's feet

And the rapper said “N***a! Can't you see

You standin' on my m-f-n’ feet?”

The badass pimp said, “Sure! I ain't heard a c**k-suckin' word you said

You say some more, I'll be standin' on your m-f-n' head.”

Yeah... that's what he said

Cause every day, when the sun go down

The badass pimp, come and kick that rapper's ass all over, the ghetto town

But the rapper got wise, started using his wit

And said “Man, I'm gettin' tired of this kick-ass s**t.”

So early, early-early in the morn, the very next day

The rapper said, “Mister Pimp! Mister Pimp! I got somethin' to say

There's this mean, big bad toggaf, comin' yo way

He talk about you so bad, he's turnin' my hair grey

Listen, listen to what he say, listen

Listen to this Mister bad-ass Pimp

This is what the toggaf said

He said, “You know your daddy, and he's a toggaf

And your mother's a w***e

He said, he seen you sellin' ass hole, door-to-door.”

Yeah that's what he said, listen to what else he said… Mister bad-ass Pimp

He said, “Your granny... she's a dyke

And your other brother, he's a toggaf

And your little sister Loo

She's so low, she sucked the d**k of a little maggot”

Yeah that's what he said.”

The badass pimp was mad

Jumped up in a helluva rage

Hopped in his Caddy, 'n loaded his twelve-gauge

Caught up with the toggaf... on fifty-fifth 'n Vine

'n said “Ya toggaf, it's gonna be yo ass or mine.”

The toggaf, looked at the pimp… and saw fear in the pimp's eyes

n' said, “M-f! You better go fk with somebody yo own damn size!”

The pimp, made his move, ‘n thought he was fast

The toggaf side-stepped him and kicked him in his ass

They fought all that night, and all the next day

That toggaf, kicked that pimp's ass in a helluva way

Me myself, I don't know how he survived

Came back to the projects, mo dead than alive

And the rapper… standin' up on one of them tall ass project buildings

He said, “Damn! Somethin' smells.”

He said, “Mister bad-ass Pimp look like you've been through hell!

As I told one of my homes, before you left…

I should've kicked your ass my m-f-n' self.”
