So Horrible....it was.....funny.....

Did anyone else experience absurdist hilarity at how bad the Bad Lieutenant was? It went so far over the line, I just had to laugh...I remember a scene where the B.L. was snorting cocaine on his kid's communion pictures--I think that's when I had my own psychotic break and began to laugh m.a.o.

Don't get me wrong, I think this is a great movie, it's one I often recommend to others, but it is so out there it cracks me up.

I agree. My brother and sister always joke about this movie, and I saw it on IFC and decided to check it out. It found it more funny than anything. Still not sure if it's intentional or not. I don't think it's a particularly good movie. It was kind of boring, but it had a lot of funny scenes that would be amusing to quote to people. I already joke about Harvey Keitel's moaning whimpers he does in other movies, but wow... this is like a whole movie dedicated to it.

Ya I have to agree with you.Saw this a couple of times I can appreciate it for what it is and what it was intended to be but haha some scenes are hilarious. The naked dance,Harvey Keitels tortured moans, trying to steal the coke from the car, forcing the girls to do that, shooting the car radio, the threatening phone call to the bookie where he can barely form sentences.Comical."NOBODY can kill me.I'm catholic."haha

Agreed, the movie was horrible and totally ridiculous from beginning to end. It was like a bad car wreck...

For me, the film lies in a terrible zone between being good, which it is not, and being over the top enough to be entertaining in that way. I find it verging on risible, yet dull.

It's a very over-the-top film and I can admit that I laughed at it, more because I didn't really know how else to react. Some of the imagery and acts were just so extreme that I couldn't even comprehend it properly without laughing. I think that's how life is though, there's a lot of humor in life and sometimes laughing is how you combat something terrible. I feel similarly about the film Precious as well.
