In what year does the movie take place?

I'm a big NY Mets fan, so judging by the play by play info you hear about the ball games in the background, it has to be 1988.. Darryl Strawberry is mentioned, David Cone is mentioned, and the Mets are playing the Dodgers, and they played the Dodgers in the playoffs in 1988.. and yeah, I see that the movie was made in 1992.. thanks ahead of time for posting any other clues I may have missed..

Please people, post direct links.. cutting and pasting is annoying.. thank you..

I was curious about the series portrayed, and I don't think it ever actually happened. It's supposed to be 3-0, then the score we saw was 11-3 in Game 4. This didn't happen in the 1988 NL, nor did it happen in any other series I could find.

It was definitely a made-up series that happened after 1989. At the very beginning, the Sports Talk guy (was that Mad Dog?) was talking about how the A's won in '89. I'd say it's circa 1991.

it never happend. Darryl did not play for the Dodgers until about 91 and they never won anything with him. It seems like it was written by a Met fan that never got over the 88 NLCS series that the mets lost to the Dodgers. What a sweet revenge it would have been to beat the Dodgers with Strawberry..

Its really strange because (as a Mets fan myself) the announcers are the real deal (Chris Russo, Bob Murphy) and I was wondering the whole time what year it took place because in this Strawberry is on the Dodgers, and then they say the Mets go onto the series? Maybe they actually hired the announcers and played around with the footage - also at the bar, Keitel's character says he was at the game, which was played in LA (you cant tell by the home/away uniforms).

I'm one of those Met fans who still haven't gotten over what happened in 1988. They used the Met and Dodger 1991 rosters to recreate the NLCS. Funny, the Mets finished in 5th in 1991 and the Dodgers were beaten out by the Braves in the NL West that year.

It definitly takes place during the 1992 season judging by the players named on each team. Darryl Strawberry is clearly seen on the Dodgers with Eric Karros, Orel Hershiser, Ramon Martinez and Brett Butler. The Mets mentioned are Dwight Gooden, Vince Coleman, Bobby Bonilla, Sid Fernandez, and David Cone. One of the writers was definitely still burning after the '88 NLCS, the fact that Darryl Strawberry was the last at-bat to end 2 games only confirms his still burring hate.
