Slimiest character in film history?

You would be hard pressed to top him on the scumbag scale. With the exception, of course, of blatently evil guys like Henry the serial killer, Denzel Washington's character in Training Day, etc. I mean, the Lieutenant is up to no good virtually every waking moment of his life. Not a single redeeming quality about him. What a performance by the great Harvey Keitel.

Uh huh. It's an absolutely incredible performance by Harvey Keitel, but though he's pure depraved scumbag, I'm not sure I'd call him 'slimy'. With the exception of the 'girls in the car' sequence, there isn't that much that makes him outstanding as 'Slimiest Character in Film History'.

I'd give that gong to Grima Wormtongue of The Lord of the Rings movies.

It's certainly up there. By the way, I'd say that Keitel's character in B.L. is waaaaaaay more despicable and corrupt than Denzel's in T.D. Also, Keitel is a MUCH better actor.

reply

I dunno, he hasn't quite crossed that line where he's committing murder. That we know of.

reply

C'mon! He smokes crack, he's a crack/heroin addict! Like he masturbates in public!

reply

i dont think he really enjoys his lifestyle. he's a cop, he must have had god intentions at one point. i think he's really confused and lost. his redeeming feature is that he's looking for a redeeming feature

Awesome performance. Disturbing but brilliant film.

Agreed. Great performance and great movie. However off the top of my head, my vote for the slimiest, most debauched character goes to Tom Roth's Archibald Cunningham in Rob Roy.

Dirty b*stard he was.

Roth was a total git in that!!!

i think this has to be the slimiest character. In the first 20 min he snorts coke, smokes crack, gives an evidence bag of drugs to a drug dealer, takes bets from his subordinates, get s**tface drunk and takes stolen money. All this and he is a Lt. in the NYPD detective division. His character makes Denzel in training day look like a boy scout. I would love to see a prequel movie of the Lt.

Try Gerrard from Au Hasard Balthazar (1966) for the biggest scumbag in film history.

Though, LT is certainly up there.
