Perhaps they did... we do not really know that. We do know that this was the "final" specimen according to what the Bishop character said in the end so likely they had already been at the LV426 searching

Interesting point. We know the terraforming facility was nuked, but what about the original ship? We don't know how far away it was from the TF, but it must have been quite a long way. The deleted scenes refer to a team of wildcatters (Newt's family).
"Remember you sent some wildcatters out into the middle of nowhere last week? Past the Hillgem rings?"
So, they were a long way from the TF. The company must surely have searched for the ship?
You have to wonder what happened regarding the derelict. I mean, Ripley doesn't nuke it from orbit at the end of Aliens. Surley it was out of the blast range of the AP blowing up. There is no mention of it after Newts family find it other than the order Burke gave to have it investigated.
