Promising news, thanks for posting! I found info on the French release but none about the US version. Do you have a link to info on the US release?

I own the TF1 distributed bluray. It has English and French audio (no DTS, sadly) and the picture quality looks pretty flawless, way beyond the original DVD. And this is the theatrical cut, not some crazy 3-hour director's cut along the lines of what Ridley Scott has sometimes alluded to in interviews. Extras include 3 trailers in rather poor quality, and an hour-long illustrated interview with the French producer Goldman and writer Rose Bosch.
Surprisingly this doc is quite fascinating, and the two interviewees really touching and candid, spinning a compelling story as this was their first ever film venture, and there's much comedy to be found in the many key coincidences that helped them along their way (ex: Bosch, a reporter fascinated with Columbus, on interviewing Sting, told him how he had the same character she imagined Columbus having. Sting replied that only a week earlier someone else told him the same thing. Who? Ridley Scott. Perhaps you two should get in touch...).
I love this movie to death, but I fear Scott has disowned it to a large extent, and it has nowhere near the cult status (Blade Runner) or commercial and artistic glory (Alien) of some of his other work which was given the 5 star HD remastering treatment, so the chances of this one getting a whole deluxe edition with commentary etc are less than great.
In any case, if this edition is a compromise, it's a bloody good one. And I get to keep watching the movie in French, and not endure the dodgy accents. Perfection.
Alright, apparently the big "issue" with the BluRay (one that hasn't really bothered me) is that, unlike what the box says, it is not in 1080p but 1080i, which is a bit dishonest on TF1's part. Still, for a company that really sucks - burning subtitles in left right and center, forcing never-ending pre-menu garbage on you etc - they managed not to screw this up too badly.
shareCan't you just change the resolution on your TV to the proper setting? When I watched Robin Hood on Blu Ray, the picture was off, until I switched my TV to 1080p, which actually looked a bit better than the recommended i.
