I would have added Cinematography to the list already listed, but otherwise it got the noms it deserved. This film is not as bad as the first reviews suggested, but it can be frustrating also. I feel bad, I love historical epics, and the more realistic and authentic they are while being compelling and engrossing. Marlon Brando had his Fletcher Christian, and Gerard DePardieu had his Columbus, mean even the greats can have a role that was truly not meant for them. I actually could have imagined another actor in this role, not necessarily American, but certainly not one with such a strong French personality and aire. I loved Gerard in Cyrano DeBergerac (and he probably deserved the Best Actor Oscar more than Jeremy Irons, whom I deeply respect as well), and he very good at his craft, but sometimes you're just not the role. This movie could have been good, but it missed the mark for frustrating reasons.
