Which Region DVD is the best?

I know there isn't a Region One release, but I have an all-region player and would like to buy an import version. Does anyone know which is the best? I was leaning towards the U.K. release, but I read some reviews that said that the transfer wasn't so good. Any ideas/opinions?

I bought a barebones French version a few years back. The quality is alright, but not totally satisfactory. Even the VHS version had better color and contrast, in my opinion. This movie needs a better release. The 70mm images are some of the most gorgeous I've ever seen.
