I've read that this awesome movie has been released on bluray in France and Germany. Maybe even in other countries.
If someone out there has purchased it, could you please share your thoughts?
How is the quality? Also, where did you buy it from? How much was it?

It appears to be a very old transfer. It's very grainy with flicker (uneven brightness) appearing in a lot of scenes. Kodak's EXR 500T 5296 doesn't hold up that well in most underlit scenes. The sharpness varies as well, going from really soft to somewhat sharp. It seems that they did a lot of reframing in post-production. Contrast will go from heavy to light giving the presentation a somewhat dull appearance.
I'd say buy it only if you really must own a copy, otherwise wait for Ridley to do a proper remastering like he has done with some of his other older films.
Sounds like they used the exact print that I saw on opening day back in 1992. What you described is just how I saw it in the theater.
