Best Supporting Actor noddable here

I think either Armand Assante or Michael Wincott were worthy of Oscar nods for Best Supporting actor. This isn't sour grapes, and I am not knocking those who WERE nominated in their stead. Just saying, Assante and Wincott really gave sharp supporting performances. I love Gerard and despite his miscasting, he manages to find some likability and respect for his character, but I think Armand and Wincott are stronger in their roles. Wincott has played quite a few troublemakers and malcontents in his career as a character actor: Sir Guy of Gisbourne in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, Rochefort in the Brat Pack-Disney Three Musketeers, the villain in the Eddie Murphy cop film Metro, and the despicable ship captain in the earlier moments of Aliens: Resurrection (also featuring Sigourney Weaver).

I thought Wincott was terrible in this, and I'm usually a fan of his work. Talk about a cartoon villain. All he needed was a cat to sit on his lap that he could stroke while he smirked at his dastardly deeds, and maybe a long pointy moustache to twirl into the bargain. Ridiculous character and an OTT performance. The guy has been excellent in other films though so I don't know what went wrong here. Agree about Armand, he never disappoints.
