Macro just disappeared?

Did they just decide to write him out of the show? One episode he was in power but you could tell Finger was more in control, then the next he's just gone. Couldn't they have shown him being ousted or something?

My theory is that Macro is killed off in the episode "Night Life" (#30), but for some reason the surrounding episodes are shown out of order.

In "Cry Justice" (#31) and "The Cauldron" (#33), Macro is completely impotent, crushed under Finger's thumb. He's clearly sick and tired of being bossed around by Finger and Medea and I was half-expecting him to pack up and leave Brad-style. I was just as surprised as you when he suddenly disappeared, but...

The episode "Night Life" seems to show Macro's demise. Finger and Medea send him to a nightclub run by vampires and laugh about how he won't be bothering them anymore. He is taken aside by the vampires and dressed up in silver just like they were planning to do with Alpha. The last time we see him, he's in the same room where the vampires apparently drain the blood of their victims, telling Flash and Jay to relax. We just don't see his body afterwards.

If "Night Life" was episode #34, it would all make sense (except for the whole idea of vampires in the Downworld). I think it's more surprising that everyone just forgets about Brad once Macro takes over.

I forgot to mention that "Night Life" is also the only episode in which we see Lee, Macro's real-world counterpart. It's as if they were giving him a special send-off.

I agree that there is something up with the orders of the episodes. Lee was a class president I believe so if the test that Donna and Jay are talking about is a final, then it makes sense that he "disappears". No longer the class president- no longer ruler of the downworld

Ryan Reynolds, the actor playing Macro, decided to quit being an actor. So unfortunately that didn't leave the show with many options on how to deal with it. That's why Macro's departure is so sudden in the show.

As for Mr. Reynold, a friend later changed his mind, convinced him to head to Hollywood, and now he's a big star. Go figure....

It's so strange seeing him as an adult from the bullying brat that he was in this show!

I always took his disappearance to mean that all the kids in the Downworld were in comas in reality and, in the Upworld, Marco woke up meaning he disappeared.

Where did you hear that? I haven't found any real info on this show and honestly, it doesn't seem very likely. Why would he quit when he had a decent gig? I just checked his imdb and there's no gaps in his credits after this show, he continued to work on tv series filming in Vancouver.

The writers probably just finished with the character. I'm re-watching it for the first time since I was little and the writing going into season two already feels less strong and well-planned than season one.

A friend of mine had a regular recurring part on the show and was also friends with a couple of the series regulars (not Ryan).

Its closing in on twenty years ago, but as I recall, apparently he was tired of acting. I think something was said about him wanting to become a paramedic or nurse. He was 17-18 years old at the time remember, so possibly trying to figure out what he wanted to do with his life. While I think it was cool, a juvenille actor on a Cdn show is pretty small potato's in the grand scheme of the entertainment industry. Maybe he had doubts.

But, yes, the acting break obviously didn't last long. So maybe there were other reasons he wanted off the show. But it was his decision to leave from what I heard, not the writers or producers.

It's a shame, because I thought the Macro character was the most interesting.

reply

Yeah, I wondered about that myself.
As I recall, he was last seen when Finger told him to go to his room (again), and he presumably did. Then he was just gone.
