Did Heather Locklear really make the show?

I know most people credit her as being the best part of this show, but I don't know what it is, I've never been too interested in Amanda's story lines. I liked her in seasons 1-3, seeing her as Alison's boss, being really bitchy all the time, then after that it became more about her love life, bouncing around from guy to guy, which got pretty boring really fast.

Hi. I'm a 20-year-old female, so don't call me an idiot.

For me, she did. I had been finding it rather banal until she arrived. There were other key characters I enjoyed (mainly the women, actually, whom I found to be better written and more interesting) but I think that it would have been a much-reduced show without HL.

I think most people are probably referring to that.

I adore Heather as an actress but I hated her character. The funniest scene was when Amanda called Sydney a slut. It was like WTF? Amanda - you are the Queen of sluts in this series. It sucks that they made such a good ending for her and ignored other characters - Allison, Eve, Lexi, Taylor....

Irina:
yea, i think she made the show better too. But so did Sydney, Matt Michael for sure. (and Kimberly.)Sydney was no more of a slut than Amanda. So i agree there Irina. Even if some will disagree and say Amanda wasn't as slut.

reply

Agreed! I disliked Amanda but the show became more popular thanks to that b***h, so I can't blame her. Amanda became better in the last 2-3 seasons

reply

But Amanda only slept with guys she was in "serious" relationships with, except Craig

Sydney was a hooker

reply

The problem is that the amount of those guys easily overcame Sydney's

reply

Not for me. Michael, Kimberly, and Sydney made the show for me. Amanda's scenes were often my least favorite parts of the episodes.

reply

I'm with rainbow ... what made it for me was when Sydney came along and you had all this rough housing between her and Michael. I do however liked Amanda in the beginning as Allison's mean boss but once she took over the complex ... it became indifferent for me.

reply

RAINBOW is right on that too lisa luv

i prefer the "1st version of amanda whe she was yea Allison boss."

But,i also love her with Jack Wagner, they were just so sexy together.

reply

Well she "made" the show in the way she changed the tone of the show from a rather earnest and a bit boring little drama about young adults to a DYNASTYesque over the top soap for the last of the baby boomers. I agree with another poster though, Kimberly and Michael were much better characters but Amanda definitely shook the show up and changed it to what the audience wanted to see.

reply

Heather Locklear SAVED the show, but Laura Leighton and Marcia Cross MADE the show.

reply

Yes, exactly!

reply

Locklear added a special dynamic to the show. I dont like when people make it out that one person solely made a show. The show was called Melrose Place not "Amanda's Place". It's a team effort and there is no "I" in team and Locklear could not have handled the success and a show by herself.

I already survived you once, you smug Son of a Bitch. Question Will you survive me?

reply

Yes. I started watching the show just because I knew she was in it.

reply

Like OMG.

reply

I know that Aaron Spelling gave her that credit and while I agree that when she came on the show changed for the better, IMO, she's not the one that made it. As a couple of others said Kimberly, Sydney, and Michael made it for me. I think that each character can be given credit though.
