Anyone on this board actually a fan?

Just asking - lots of people calling it crap. Wondering if anyone who comes here is actually a fan like me.

I loved every single second of this show! I wish I could find my neurotic Paul to do the crossword with.

ME! My husband and I never missed it, watched it when it went to syndication, have all the DVDs that have been released, and even find we've got some parts of their language in ours now ('because A.....and 2....' and 'that's not the most right I've ever been' and so on.) And we have been told that we are very like Paul and Jamie (meant as a compliment, we were reasssured.)

Does it mean that every episode was perfect, no. Did we like each and every one, no. But overall, we adored this show and still, now and then, will spend a lazy Sunday afternoon sprawled on our bed (which, if you must know, we bought because it reminded us of theirs) and watch favorite episodes.

(We didn't name our daughter Mabel, though......)

Me too. I tried watching every time it was on and now have the entire series (so far) on DVD which I have watched completely at least 3 times in the past year.

Never depend on anything and you will never be disappointed.

I love this show. I used to think that Jamie was kind of high maintenance but after watching Debra and Marie Barone for years Jamie seems like a nice person. I forgot how good a sitcom could be when everyone acts like adults who actually like one another.

IMO, for at least a couple decades, there have been only 2 quality sitcoms: Seinfeld & Mad About You.

You obviously never saw Cheers or Veep or The Larry Sanders Show or SMILF.

It's good that we don't all like the same things, keeps life interesting.

I like Mad About You well enough to own the box set and rewatch all the episodes now and then.

But Seinfeld -- not so much!

Yes Thanx for Asking: 4 all of us Who Appreciate Good Quality TV! Etc: I agree with the Comment made further on etc: This 1 and The Sein were The Comedy of TV! Except to say that Yes MAY may have been Considered Fluff in it's day, but I have been Fortunate enough to Grab this Via the Wonderful Torrent files, I have just Started to Watch the Pilot over again--Have not seen this since about the 2nd or 3rd Rerun cycle, which 4 around my Area--Eastern Canada, was circa about just shortly after the Initial run Concluded--so like 2000-2001 etc: This Is a Very Funny Program, and I still Miss it a Lot!

Cheers Thanx for Tuning In TRX15:

PS: Sorry, but I have to use this 1

It's strange that there seems to be some kind of backlash against this show at the moment. I suspect it is because the reruns have been aired for years on certain channels. Maybe the public needs to miss it again.

Having said that, I am a huge fan of the show and always have been. My husband and I have always felt such a connection to Paul & Jamie, as it mirrors our own relationship in so many ways. The personalities aren't letter perfect, the heart of the relationship is identical. We have said often that it's more than a show to us, it's like watching our relationship on screen. Funny how a half hour sitcom can make you feel that way!

Anyway, as for the haters, it doesn't bother me too much, but I do wish there was more fan discussion here. I'm kind of surprised trolls are even drawn to spout off about a show this old. I think given enough time, and perhaps absence, the show will make a comeback and then people will say how great it is again. Until then, I don't mind it being our little treasure!

Does it get shown a lot in some countries then? I'm not aware of it having aired here in the UK at all, unless it was on a channel that I don't have. I only know about it because I had enjoyed "My Two Dads", and was interested to see what Paul Reiser had done next! Consequently I've had to wait for the DVD releases to see more than clips. I think it's great, though. I love the mix of comedy and drama, and the way that it reflects real life. Even just the little touches, like how Paul hangs out in his apartment in old jeans and bare feet. In shows like "Friends", the cast spend the whole time dressed like models at a photo-shoot. MAY is so much more real. I love the dialogue too.

It wasn't perfect. Given that it's set in probably the most multi-cultural city on Earth, it was a bit monochrome. I guess it wasn't really about New York though, so that's sort of understandable. Otherwise, the cast is great, the chemistry between the two leads is excellent, and I love the little tag scenes, where you never quite know what will happen.

Amazing to think that back then, NBC had this, "Friends", "Seinfeld", "Late Night With Conan"... They must dream of those days now!
