I can't believe it, but it's finally happening!
AND Shout! Factory is doing it as well?!?

Wait a minute... who am I here?
It's great news guys, that's for sure, even if just in the 'planning' stages. But Shandling has a habbit for making announcements like this regarding the show before, and literally years go by before a release if anything comes out.
We got the first season finally back in '02, and no follow-up releases until '07 when we got a 'best of' (though there can be no 'best of' with this show; every episode has greatness), with many of the same episodes from that 1st season release plus like the entire last season that a lot of us probably recorded anyway.
I've been a huge fan of the show since it first aired on HBO in '92, and always looked forward to when the entire series - anything - was be released, and Shandling comes out every couple of years and says he's planning on doing this or that. Nothing ever comes of it though.
Except for the pesky little detail about how Shout! Factory announced it, not Shandling, plus we're not waiting for Shandling to make all these episodes, they're in the can and waiting to be released.
Furthermore, if you look at the extras on the "It's Garry Shandling's Show" DVD you'll see that all his interviews were done in one session (well, two technically because Shandlng was obviously present for the Alan Zweibel meeting because they do that one on the Season 4 DVD) and in the commentaries they make constant references to other commentary recording sessions so all told Shout! needs Shandling present for literally a day or two.
But yeah, nice one, trying to be a buzzkill and everything. Let's see how you look when we're all getting this box set around September.

Well, a little sensitive are we? Mr. Shandling, is that you?
I'm wondering how much of this delay is due to music licensing for the artists that appear on the show. That always seems to either hold up a release or lead to music being replaced (with replacement, to me, being something Shandling simply will not allow to happen - yet another reason I think he's so damn great...)

No but, now that you mention it, I am NOW.
Sanders: "When's it coming out?"
Segal: "I don't know."

Here's a little tiny update, nothing substantial but definitely encouraging. It comes from Shout! Factory producer Brian Ward from the company's official DVD forum. From the "It's Garry Shandling's Show" thread:
Thanks, guys! We're big fans of the set and are having as much of fun--if not more--with Garry's much more familiar show, "The Larry Sanders Show."
Brian
I'm very excited about this.
shareAnother little update from the producer on the SF board:
Brian Blum, who worked very closely with Garry on It's Garry Shandling's Show as well, has been putting a lot of work into the set. I can vouch that this is gonna be a good one!

Can we have it on region 2 as well please?
shareI second the request for a region 2 release as well please.
Over here in Region 2 land, we've just had to content ourselves with 6 episodes on a "Best of" dvd. Good though it was, we need more.

Buy a region-free DVD player and make sure you can convert from NTSC to PAL and you won't have to wait.
shareAnyone zoom in on the actual pic of the box set posted at Amazon?
It literally contains every word of Hank's intro 'speech' that you usually hear during the opening credits of most episodes.
Brilliant.

Nobody seems to have mentioned that the set has been bumped back a few weeks. The release date is now November 2nd.
Someone did, however, post that Brian Ward confirmed that all the music is intact, and on another recent post to the Shout! boards he more or less confirms that all the excellent bonus features from the previous DVD sets will be carried over. He doesn't come right out and say it (he isn't actually the DVD producer on this set) but when asked if the content would be included he confirms that the poster won't be disappointed.
This is shaping up to be a dream DVD set so I personally can't really complain over the small delay. If that's what it takes to put out a definitive and comprehensive set then I'm all for it, plus we've waited this long and it isn't going to hurt us to wait a few extra weeks.
It's going to be great, and I will buy it. But I'm dissapointed to see that the features are all just repeats from the Not the Best Of... set that I already have. I was hoping for some new commentaries from Shandling at least, and previously unreleased episodes.
I also hope that each season will be available separately, not just a whole series box set. Shout offered both choices with, I's Garry Shandling's Show. reason I say that is I already have the season one set that came out before the Sony Not the Best of Set. So I already have some overlap in what I own. I will buy the whole series if necessary, being a fanatic, but it would be nice just to get seasons 2-6 separately.

I think Shout! is planning on that eventually, because 'Season 2' is supposed to be released on the same day the 'Complete Series' comes out.
And I think there are some 'new' extras in the upcoming set...

Wait a minute... who am I here?
Shout! seems to have stalled on the individual "IGSS" releases even though the discs themselves are ready to go. I think it's one of those cases where the amount of people not buying the complete set is practically non-existent.
Ultimately I can't really see holding out for future releases of individual seasons. Are you that attached to what you already have or are you just stubborn in regards to spending $10 or $20 on something you already bought?
There are 6 seasons. That means 5 that are new to DVD. You can currently score this release for less than $100 so think of it as $20 a season. Call the episodes you already have a bonus. They all go into a nice box set too.
Comedy Central released the first two seasons of "Dr. Katz" on DVD and then they just abandoned the individual releases and put out a complete set. I didn't actually buy the first two (came close plenty of times) but I could see why people were frustrated with this tactic. Still, same deal, the whole thing is being made available to you (not all shows are so lucky) at a price that would have been appropriate for the unreleased seasons alone.
This case is slightly different as Shout! Factory is releasing something Sony was unwilling to release (as opposed to Comedy Central pretty much admitting their own original release strategy was wrong) but the result is the same. I don't think there's a huge amount of people who are willing to buy these seasons (hence the poor major-studio sales and the eventual specialty-market release) but among those who are I think you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who wouldn't pay $20 a season individually.
Well if Shout! actually does release Season 2 of Larry Sanders on the same day the Complete Series comes out, my guess is the same sort of thing might happen, and you'll see no more 'individual seasons' released of Larry Sanders - it'll stop with Season 2.
But I agree with you, I'm THRILLED to be able to buy the Complete Series (finally!) on DVD - doesn't matter to me I've already bought Season 1 (so many years ago). It'll be a Christmas gift this year to someone, just like the Season 1 and 2 sets of Dr. Katz were after I picked up the Complete Series set of that show.

Wait a minute... who am I here?
Sounds like I should buy the complete set when it comes out, even though I own the older season 1 already. I don't want to get hung out to dry if they stop releasing individual seasons.

I went ahead and bought the whole series, despite the overlap of already owning prevoius releases.
It's well worth it, to watch a season episode by episode. It's so awesome to finally have this.
And the booklet was a nice bonus surprise too.
