Anybody ever notice how many 'backstage' boom mic shots there are?

I've been watching this show lately and I'm noticing a LOT of boom mics during the backstage parts of the show. I understand seeing them during the talk show parts, because the show's being filmed, but seeing them backstage so frequently doesn't make sense. Are they supposed to be shooting this as if a documentary crew is following them backstage or is it just crappy boom mic work?

Sounds like the latter, can't say I've noticed though. Examples?

Well, I just saw another one in the season 2 episode "Grand Opening" when Hank's trying to get the writers to come to the opening of his restaurant. I just think it's funny how many boom mic shots slipped by them. Doesn't really matter.. still one of the best shows ever.

I just watched the whole series and I too noticed alot of boom mics during the backstage scenes. I'm led to believe that they are legitimate mistakes but there are atleast ten-fifteen times when this happens throughout the show so I'm surprised someone didn't notice this in order to do retakes or whatever. However, you bring up a good point that it could be because they have a crew following them backstage but I'm not sure. Probably just crappy boom mic work. But regardless still one of the greatest television comedies ever made.

I have a feeling it's because most scene's are shot in one take, in order to give the show more realism. This is just my theory so I could be wrong. But I think they're legitimate goofs, due to a not so polished production.

There's a possibility they were cropped out of original TV episodes and the DVDs were released without the cropping to better fill widescreen TVs. Sometimes the image filmed / video taped is slightly larger than the image that actually shows up on the screen, so depending on how they used the source material we might actually be seeing stuff that wasn't intended to be in the shot.

There's one boom mic shot in Hank's office that's CLEARLY a mistake - they forgot they were shooting into a wall with a mirror on it (removed in later episodes) and you can see the boom mic in the mirror during the scene.
