Been Watching My Complete Series And I Just Realized...
How much of Ricky Gervais's comedy is built on the foundation that Garry Shandling set up. I'm not slagging off Ricky or his accomplishments, if anything it's fun to discover the things that the people you love, love themselves.
But it just goes to show you not only the lasting power of Larry Sanders but also how important of a show it actually is. It completely set the stage for the 21st century's important comedy shows. The Office, Extras, Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm, they all exist because Larry Sanders existed and paved the way with it's character driven, uncomfortable comedy.
Seriously though, so much of Andy's character on Extras and a lot of the situational based comedy aspects of the show are straight Sanders.
It's pretty incredible.
And it's also the first time I'm viewing most of these episodes since I was 10 when it premiered and I've only ever been able to watch the first season over and over again while waiting for the complete set. I can't believe it's finally here and I finally have it! The State on DVD and now Larry Sanders. Someone check the thermostat in hell.
