Question About Final Episode.

Just saw the final episode, and am curious about something that Gary does in the final scene. As he's walking out of the studio for the final time, just before he goes around the curtain and out of the scene, he holds up his right hand as he's walking away from the camera, flashing what appears to be a "Number 1" sign with the index finger of his right hand. For some reason, it made me think of that (relatively) famous footage of Jets quarterback Joe Namath doing the same thing as he leaves the field after winning Super Bowl III back in 1969 (although Joe 'wags' his hand back and forth while flashing the "Number 1", and Gary just holds his hand up).

Anybody know if that's the gesture he made in that final scene, and what it might actually have meant?
