Production Order

Is the show best viewed in Production Order?

I know it's not a serialised show, but judging by some of the cast credits (Janeane Garofalo, for instance) it looks like Production Order would be the way to go.

Can anyone confirm? Thanks.

I wouldn't recommend watching it in Production Order. If you look at Season 3 the last episode produced is "Next Stop...Bottom", but that's not the season finale. The season finale was produced just before that episode, and it ends on a sort of cliffhanger that's directly addressed in the first episode of Season 4. If you watch it in Production Order, you would wonder why the important thing that happened in the previous episode is completely ignored in the next one. Same thing with the first episode of Season 3. Season 2 also ends on a sort of cliffhanger, but the first episode of Season 3 that adresses the Season 2 ending was produced second.

I'm using the term "sort of cliffhanger" to avoid spoiling the show for you. Maybe it's not a cliffhanger, maybe it is one, but I'm trying to underline the fact that storywise, you have to watch these episodes in the order they aired or the order on the DVD sets.

The episodes aired in the right order, but I'm guessing the reason they weren't produced in the right order was because maybe they had to schedule the production around the many guest-stars. That's just a guess though.

Stick with the DVD order which is the same as the original air dates. That's my recommendation.

Who would've noticed another madman around here?

I agree.

The production order differs from how they aired, but the minds behind the show were the ones who made the decision to air the episodes in the order they did (as opposed to network-influence, etc.)

I'd stick with the order as presented on the DVDs.

Thanks! And thanks for avoiding spoilers.

I watched the show, on and off, when it was first airing, so I remember some of the bigger events.

I want to do a rewatch and was thinking of doing it in PO, which works best for some (but not all) shows.

Obviously in this case, it is best to stick to airdates. Thanks.
