Starting with rock and roll dreams both date the character and mark him as common. It would be better to pull the reader in with mystery, a question that must be reasoned out from clues throughout the story.
It has be said that the best opening line ever written was Charles Dickens. "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,..." Because it called to the imagination, removing one from his daily concerns and transporting them to the intellectual level.
