Was that John's real life brother George Kapelos that got shot to death in the street at the very beginning of a season one episode? He's not listed in the opening or ending credits but he was listed in the ending credits of the episode previous to this one, though I don't think he was in the episode??? He doesn't have a page on imdb.

As far as I know, his real life brother played the nerdy tech kind of guy in the episode he was listed in, wasn't killed off.
John Kapelos was in the first two seasons, then told (when it was being picked up by USA Network) that Schanke would become the new captain of the precinct and get less screen time and would no longer be Nick's partner. He decided he didn't want that, so he left and his character (and the 2nd season captain) were killed off in a plane crash near the beginning of the 3rd season premiere.
Thanks. I thought his brother was probably somebody else but that guy that got killed sure looked like he could be his brother. Too bad they replaced John, he was great. The only thing I didn't like about season one was when Schanke encouraged Nick to lie in court.
