Anthony Hopkins? Seriously?
The main issue with based on TV-show movies is that using the original cast is ALWAYS preferable (see the success of the Star Trek series) but the fact that people age means that later reboots need actors of the age the characters are supposed to be.
Since vampires don't grow any older, keeping the original actors in those roles is pretty much a no-go. They've aged. (Especially so in the case of Geraint Wyn Davies, sad to say.)
So back to Anthony Hopkins: he's a great actor but he's 12 years older than Nigel Bennett. You'd need an actor in his mid40's to reflect Nigel Bennett's look when he did that part (remember: LaCroix was a general in his prime when his daughter bit him.) Think Ralph Fiennes, Daniel Craig, Hugh Jackman, etc.
Shucks. If you'd consider Hopkins, then just keep Bennett. He owns that part.
