How did he go to the Police Academy if he can't go out during the day?

Pretty sure that even in Canada, you can't become a Police Detective without going to the academy first, and maybe even spending some time in a uniform....

Here's my guess: Nick had someone to arrange to have papers drawn up that showed he attended the Police Academy. Since the series had people who were vampires but it was unknown to the people around them, probably this person arranged for some of them to say that Nick was at the Academy and maybe by hypnosis, had some non-vampires to remember things Nick did or said there or some mortals who knew of vampire's existence helped.

There was a vampire who specialized in setting up new identities for other vampires. Nick merely had the documents forged to reflect his police academy attendance. I believe there was some brief mention that he never went to any such academy.

Can you really transfer from one country to another? (Chicago to Toronto, was it? In the film it was Chicago to LA, IIRC...)
