I know this question has probably been asked a million times before....

...BUT... I've searched the forum and can't see any sign of it, so here goes:

Where, if it exists, is the bench in the opening credits???

I imagine they just put the bench there for the purpose of filming but would still like to know where it was nonetheless!! My friends and I are avid bottom fans (ooh eeerrrr!) and have deliberated over this subject for many years. Is there anyone out there who knows anything about the opening title sequence locations?

Also, a friend of mine swears that the station seen in said credits is Hammersmith itself but I am not convinced!!!!

Somewhere along Hammersmith Bridge Road, in the London boroughs of Hammersmith and Fulham. You can sort of make it out on the street sign behind them.

A poster who lives in Hammersmith told me this.

It's not there anymore, it used to be on a traffic island, but there's now a pelican crossing there instead unfortunately. It was in between King Street and the Hammersmith Apollo, can't remember exactly where though, it's been a while since I've been there.

It's a shame really. If Del Boy and Rodney had sat on that bench it would be a Grade II listed building!

Ah, thats interesting to know, thank you for your reply! I had a feeling that it would not be there anymore. Still, its nice to know the rough location.
Do you know if its actually Hammersmith station we see when the camera zooms out from Rik and Ade at the last part?

reply

Rik Mayall himself confirmed the location of the bench.

If you were to come to the end of King Street where it meets the big roundabout to get to the Hammersmith Apollo, you'd find that same bench on a traffic island - until one day they took it away and put a pelican crossing in its place.

Also, I do believe that was the construction site for Hammersmith Broadway.

The opening credits of Bottom show the Hammersmith Broadway development, then called Centre West, when it was under construction.
