The Ending

On a table, in front of everyone? Really?

Nicebat and I had to party.

And she had customers waiting too!

I bet that she didn't keep that job for long!

the ending seemed tacked on and ridiculous after a very sensitive, thoughtful exploration of how love and honesty evolve between two people. weak and disappointing writing.

reply

Yeah, I always found table scenes a bit illogical. I like a hard bed as much as anyone, but, really?

Everybody with half a brain hated the ending, because it was a sell-out which didn't ring true at all and it ruined an otherwise enigmatic picture I wanted very much to like.

The filmmakers felt the same way, by the way. The stupid "happy ending" was shot later, on studio demand, in an era where the brass were convinced that everybody wanted movies to end that way.

And maybe 13-year old girls do. Not to be sexist.

That's too bad. It felt totally off-key after all they'd been through.
