41 year old checking in - since the age of 23 went out with older women. Just had my heart broken by an amazing woman - a lot older (sorry, no specifics, but a 10+ year difference), far more worldly and affluent than myself - sort of the inverse of the White Palace situation.
She would tell me a lot about her social life - full of get-togethers, speaking events, parties, etc. Most of it centered around one of the most exclusive yacht clubs in the country. Other than her taking me there twice for "open dining" evenings, she didn't include me in any of it. Also didn't bring me along on any of the many trips she took during the six months we saw each other.
It made me recall the scene in which Serandon heard the tail end of a message from someone inviting James Spader to some sort of gathering. He tries to slough it off, but she catches on, knowing that the age and social class differences made him uneasy.
Interestingly, she told a lot of her friends and family about me. "Go for it" they told her, as if she needed reassurance from outside of her heart.
Good enough to be mentioned, but not enough to be seen with amongst her fancy friends and family?
Sigh....
"...and Mrs. Taylor sure seems to use a lotta ice, whenever he's away."
