Lawsuit?

I dont remember, did either family sue the hospital that switched the girls? I would think they each would have walked away with a couple million dollars, especially considering all the heartache caused, plus the money the Twigg's spent on Arlena's operations. Kimberly should have been financially set for life, instead of living in a hotel and dancing topless.

Yes, the Twiggs sued Harding Memorial (I believe that was the name), and were successful in their suit. The hospital consequently shut down, leaving the people who lived in that area without a local hospital, at least for a few years.
None of the money went to Kimberly, but it may not be because the Twiggs didn't offer her any... they were looking for compensation for themselves, not Kimberly.

reply

Well they were always looking out for themselves - screw the kids.

<mandawaller> I think your comment is a little unfair. I think the Twiggs did what any parents in their position would have done. The Twiggs paid thousands upon thousands of dollars for medical treatment for a child that was not theirs. The mistake (illegal actions) that the hospital made had to be rectified. I'm not insinuating that they did not love the daughter they raised; they just wouldn't have had the financial burden if they had raised their own healthy child. As a side note - I wonder...did the hospital ever seek restitution from whomever set up and executed the swap (Mrs. Mays' parents, doctors, nurses, etc.)?

In addition, the Twiggs did (do and would) support "Kimberly" in a manner in which they would support any of their other children. The funds received from the lawsuit could have certainly gone to that end. I don't think that Kimberly was necessarily entitiled to ANY of the money that the Twiggs received.

I'm sorry that "Kimberly's" life hasn't turned out very well. I believe she was a spoiled child and she uses this particular tragedy to excuse her behavior. She should be thankful to have a biological family that loves her as much as the Twiggs.

break down on this real fast, Kim to get awarded money, she got 2.2 million, Mays got 6.2 million, and the Twiggs got 7 million. This is coming from someone that knows the Twiggs, and knows Kim, the end

I've been fascinated by this story since it first came out on TV. When I first heard about the lawsuit the bulk of the money was to settle the endless debt that the Twiggs suffered because of the swap, and they offered some to Mr. Mays to settle the debt that he had occured due to his wife's medical treatment.
