I've noticed a huge plot hole in the film. If Big Lou is the real owner, why isn't it he who gets sentenced in the squalor, not Louie?

Big Lou signed the building over to Louie completely for his birthday towards the beginning of the movie, remember? However, Louie was still letting his dad tell him how to run the building so he would inherit his other buildings.

Big Lou didn't get sentence because he had listed the property under his son's name. He listed Louie as the owner. In fact he had given the property to his son.
