I don't understand this star date....

At the beginning of this film the Captain says "Star Date 9522.1" or something similar.

Now I've read many explanation about dates and times but none of what I read seem to explain this one. Some explanations have said the date always starts with a 4 signifying the actual date 24**.

But I am lost on this one. Can someone please explain and my apologies if this has already been discussed here... too many pages to go through.

Stardates don't have any meaning, they're just made up numbers by the screenwriters.

According to die hard fans they do have meaning.

I am a die hard fan and there has never been any official meaning for what stardates are, they're just meaningless numbers made up by a screenwriter to be part of a Captain's log exposition.

I'm sorry, but you are wrong about them. In the link below, you'll see that with the exception of the original series, where they were basically meaningless (but not completely) there has always been a devised meaning to the dates.

But the original post I made on this varies from this link's description and that's why I was asking for opinions on why.
