Why did the changeling...?

Why did the changeling transform into Kirk?
It was obvious that Kirk and McCoy were going to be killed, and she was "promised" a reward for bringing them out there. By turning into Kirk, wasn't she risking being killed by the Klingons herself? Or was she supposed to act as some kind of "Kirk decoy" for the assassination plot?

So they could include a shot of Kirk getting vaporized in the trailer.

"Lovey-dovey. Bonk bonk on the head!"

reply

Oh. I thought it was so we could, for one last time, watch some kirk-on-kirk fighting.

Also the beautiful taunt to the Shatner ego with:
Kirk: I can't believe I kissed you!
Shape-shifter: Must have been your lifelong ambition!

I think there have been writers waiting for decades to write a line like that for Shatner/Kirk

Although the shot in the trailer looks completely different from the one used in the film.

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

I'm more wondering why she didn't change back when the warden showed up.

reply

The Warden: "No witnesses"

It is obvious that Martia would have been killed as well, regardless of what they may have promised her.

Hell, for all we know, Kirk really was killed by the Klingons, and Martia, counting her blessings after being beamed aboard the Enterprise, decided to assume the identity of James T. Kirk for the rest of its existence.

reply

But she could only look and sound like him. She wouldn't have had his memories, his knowledge of Starfleet regulations and how the ship works, and so forth.

...and Kirk still had the leg irons on and Martia didn't [slipped them off when she first became little girl]
