What did he think was going to happen after he caught up with her in Iowa? After she went through all the trouble of faking her own death and changing her identity? Did he really think that they were going to live happily ever after?
shareI remember wondering that myself when I first saw this film in 1991.
I realized later that Martin did not CARE about happily-ever-after.
He didn't care one red bit that Laura did not want to be with him at all...he owned her.
Martin summed it up when he said "I can't live without you, and I won't let YOU live without ME."
If he could not get her to return somehow, he would kill her right then.
