lol I know right. I guess it was assumed it was a 'fat fire', but still.
I can see it burning up if he had it in the BROILER. Not the oven haha.

so true. one must sear before one roasts!
and was that the best food for a date?!! pot roast gets stuck in your teeth. now that's a way to end the meal: picking out chucks of stew out of each other's teeth!

Not to mention those dry-looking (and RAW-LOOKING!) red potatoes Ben served with them.
Geez guy, how about some scalloped potatoes when you're trying to impress a girl!
AND she had to bring dessert!
Tsk.

clearly they don't teach cooking at 'the college'.
he's not as bad as some roommates i had in college, they didn't know that to boil water (sometime today...) you had to put the top on it.

lol!
I know what you mean, I had an ex-boyfriend that literally messed up boxed mac & cheese. He didn't know to put enough water in the pan to start with.
Hello. Really?
As to Ben's roast, if he was the only person who was going to eat it...why did he buy a roast big enough for the Duggar family?!

actually i started cooking b/c my one sis couldn't make boxed mac & cheese. at all. my parents were always working until 8-9pm so i became the 'chef'. the phrase 'will you make me some mac & cheese!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' delivered with her usual subtle charm...still echoes in my mind.
that roast was huge.... indeed. but isn't that really a cliche in movies: the burnt roast! it was in clint eastwood's 'trouble with the curve' too!

Hey, a man who can cook well is a rare gem!
One that enjoys it is an even rarer one. They were lucky to have you cook for them.
I still crack up when Ben not only sets the roast aflame, but looks down at the TOWEL which oddly IGNITES while he's trying to charm Laura.
Something tells me that the actor didn't intend that! I wonder why it did that!

Then you are very lucky!
I know many men....can't think of 3 of them that can (see: like or want to) cook.

Pizza can be a testy choice too. But then, a knife & fork help smooth that over.
But to be honest, now that I'm past my 20s I'm not so 'concerned' about the food I order on a date.
As long as I (nor my date!) are slopping it all over their shirt or chewing with mouth open (HATE that!)...I say order & enjoy.

Let's also not forget that apparently Ben did not serve any food during his *lawn picnic*.
