For me this movie's sum was better than its parts. I still like the overall thing even though it's not perfect, but do you think critics and whatnot would've liked it better if not for that serious sin with the wedding ring?

Yes. I keep seeing comments stating that it was a plot device, but surely the writers could’ve found other ways to advance the plot. Leaving the ring in the toilet was so jarring because it left the impression that Julia Roberts’s character wanted her intentions to be discovered.
