how is this even possible?

how is it even possible to rent a house, get a job ect with zero I.D.?
I had to show 3 forms of I.d including a photo I.d. just to join my local gym and dvd store...
so how was she able to rent a house, get a job, open a bank account ect..
with no ss number, no drivers licence and no birth cert ect..

I know I agree with you, that's why it's a movie and not real life.

Besides the good point the above poster made about it being a movie, it also speaks to the times.

In 1990, not every state required a credit check or references to rent a place.

I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?
Penfold, shush.

What state was is that she moved to? Also, it seemed like a small town. I could see her being able to rent a place, but you still had to show ID and have a SS number to get a job.

She moved to Iowa. I'd guess it was a midsize town since there was a college there. I did read one blogger thought it was supposed to be Cedar Rapids, Iowa, but I can't confirm that. I don't remember seeing a town sign in the movie, maybe someone here does.

I do remember seeing this in the theater and hearing groans and laughs when the "Welcome to Iowa" sign was shown during the movie. This was a theater full of Minnesotans. Not that we have anything against Iowa! It just took people by surprise I guess :D

It's illegal, but people do it all the time. In the job situation, it's called "getting paid under the table." The employer doesn't report to the government that you work for them and you don't get health benefits, etc. As for the home rental, I've seen it done in my own family. Someone moved in with a boyfriend, leaving her own house empty. So she rented her house out but didn't want to report the profit in her taxes. She ended getting burned, though because the tenant trashed the house and she had nothing to prove they even lived there.

Ask Richard Kimble from the four season long
classic tv series The Fugitive.
He managed to do it each week all over the country.

It was a totally different world in 90/91, you could get away with so much more compared to today back then. People also seemed way more trusting back then, seems you can get burned more today.
