I just cannot remember anyone....

wearing those types of ugly ass dresses in that era. They're like farm dresses. I must have dementia.

"So, what would you like to see on your honeymoon, Mrs. Cord?" "Lots of lovely ceilings."

LOL I agree. They were never 'the fashion', at least not in any recent era!

It was just another annoying 'plot device'. Anytime a character moves to the Midwest, they always seem to buy *country clothes* and/or decorate their house from Shabby Chic.

Laura did both! 

Her house was way worse than shabby chic. It was grandma.

Oh, yes they were in fashion in the 80's and 90's. Gunne Sax and Laura Ashley were two huge brands that specialized in those dresses. Go back and watch old Seinfeld episodes and you'll see Elaine in them with her white socks and loafers. The farm dress trend was huge.

Agree with thepixinator - they absolutely were in fashion. Had a couple myself.

Well her house was just like a farm house and I got the feeling like she was trying to dress completely different then she did before so as to not bring any extra attention on herself.
