Martin's creepy wide-eyed glare at the carnival...

When Martin spies on Ben and Laura at the carnival when the are kissing on the roller coaster, he gives this creepy wide-eyed glare that sends shivers up my spine. Every time the scene switches from Laura and Ben, then back to him, it looks like his eyes just keep getting wider and wider and wider..... CREEPY!!!!

I thought it was even worse when he saw Laura laughing so openly just moments before. I bet he hadn't seen her so happy in his life. The most disturbing thing about it, though, was the lack of hurt in his eyes. He didn't appear to feel betrayed or sad, just damn angry someone else was playing with his "possesion".

I agree he looked furious. Even the red lights from the carnival shining on his face added to his look of anger and hatred. Very creepy.

I agree. I thought the same thing; the red light was perfect effect for his inner rage at his 'property' daring to leave him.
I agree with the above poster too, that it was scary indeed looking at Martin's face & realizing he is full of a plain silver fury. No hurt no tears, just rage.

I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?

The actor really did a good job.

Sort of like Keifer Sutherland in An Eye For an Eye. Very scary and creepy.

And the way he drank out of the water fountain at the nursing home  I wonder if this role gave him a stigma afterwards. I know I never cared for him again. He was very believable as the abusive, and psychopathic, husband.

I seldom saw him again after this. This happens sadly enough to some actors who start out as a 'bad guy'.
I will say I liked him a lot (in fact, he was the ONLY redeeming factor) in the otherwise-ghastly film Eye Of The Beholder.
He played a good guy there, sadly his role was way too brief.

This happened to Paul LeMat too. He played the similar-type viciously abusive husband in The Burning Bed. He was rarely seen again after that film.

I will admit that NEITHER actor is terribly versatile however, so this could be why they were rarely cast.

Patrick Bergen played a decent man in "Stolen Women, Captured Hearts" and I couldn't look at him without being afraid he was going to hit his wife in that movie lol. It's hard for me to see him in anything without thinking of this movie.

Do you make them line up the white *goldfish* food cartons evenly??

Do you have "Symphonie Fantastique" on the CD player when he arrives?

I think he was madder at her having fun and being dressed so tackily and wearing her hair natural and drawing attention to herself by screaming and kissing in public than he was about her kissing someone else.

Classic cuckold. As if he were thinking, "How could she be with him while I'm watching!? I'm so humiliated!" (Albeit turned on.)

Well seeing as how he's a psycho it fits.
