Martin telling John Fleishman what he does for a living.

It seemed odd to me that Martin, a showoff & insecure man for sure, would tell John Fleishman that he was only 'an investment counselor'.

It sure looked like Martin was the BOSS of an investment firm, not merely a worker.
We see people milling around in a crowded room with cubicles, yet he has his own large office & secretary.

Plus, how does on become a multimillionaire by just being an investment counselor?
Investing himself? Surely they didn't pay that, even in 1990.

Yeah but that was an insignificant part of the movie.

sounds like a euphemism maybe? for what?...art smuggling?

The food I've liked in my time is American country cookin'-Colonel Sanders 🇺🇸

I took it that he wasn't really interested in talking about himself, he just wanted to talk about Fleishman's boat.

reply

I don't think he was a "multimillionaire". Just very rich.

Maybe he is the owner of the firm, and they made some very large investments.

reply

I felt he was a millionaire at least.
Especially since the home they had at the beach (which was ONLY a vacation home!) was a multimillion-dollar house by itself.
Never mind the doubtless-also-large home Martin said they owned in Boston.

This was why Laura was that terrified of him. She knew Martin had the dough to track her down no matter what.
