kidnapping a senator's daughter

Do you think he knew, that was part of his plan?

There's just a lot of variables here that are interesting to consider.

When he kidnapped Catherine, that was clearly his plan, and I'd guess that chair move was his usual MO.

But.

Did he

A: Park there and wait for a likely candidate, and it just happened to be her?

or

B: Did he stalk his victims beforehand, so he had already chosen her, and that was just the night he picked?

Because if it's B, if that's his usual way, makes sense he might know a bit about his victims.

But, this was also before the internet was everywhere. Social media didn't exist yet. So it's hard to know if he actually would've been aware of who her mother was.

When Catherine tells him "My mom is a real powerful woman, but I guess you already knew that," he shows no real reaction to that. No surprise, and no agreement or acknowledgment.

If he didn't know, it seems like he'd react with surprise. But, if he did know, it seems stupid to pick her. Go pick someone else. Because a senator's kid is of course going to get more resources. And it's not like he chose her for ransom or political reasons, so there's nothing for him to gain by picking a senator's kid, seems like you could go find a size 14 with a more average parent.
