So stanton will go on as dan merrick. But didn't the police find the real Dan's body when they rescued Klein?

Merrick's body was not found and was never going to be.
I'm happiest...in the saddle.
How would it not be? Klein called the police, they would have secured the ship as a crime scene and found the real Merrick.
