Music wrecked this otherwise decent film

I've never seen music get a movie so wrong before. I don't think this film was supposed to be a Chick Norris action flic or cheesy porno, but that's the feeling the music kept pushing me to. The dramatic electric guitar solos were just TOO much. Tears in Heaven at the end was fine tho.

I liked the music for this. I'm not a big Clapton fan, but I thought the music fit good. Whatever blows your hair back I guess.

Most of the music I heard was very appropriate for the time the movie takes place(1970s as i recall) so you might have felt that way about the music but it was actually very right for the film. What would you have preferred? None of the music is something i would regularly listen to - but i dont think it ruined the movie.

ALL of it was music I listened to on a regular basis back then, and I still listen to it sometimes. If you were alive in the 70's and even remotely around the drug and biker culture, this was what you heard.

CLAPTON IS GOD

The soundtrack was perfect for this film. It fit the landscape and time.

reply

AMEN

The acting is stellar all around, but the soundtrack adds that element needed to pinpoint this movie in time. The background soundtrack performed by EC was absolute perfection, it focused the emotional impacts perfectly and that is what an excellent soundtrack should do.

PERIOD

I am now exhibiting extreme control to NOT critique the person who started this post

Freebird was cool as usual.

Actually the song at the end was The Bridge of Sighs by Robin Trower and the music was appropriate for those from that generation.

reply

Well, the OP was referring to the Clapton score, rather than the classic-rock nuggets sprinkled throughout. I always enjoy hearing "Bridge of Sighs" myself!

I bought the OS of the movie years ago and listen to it a lot...

Are we all talking about the same movie? the music made this movie even better then it already was. that music is awesome. Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton- great. I love Wang Dang doodle in the beginning- the whole thing.

reply

I just watched this and agree the music makes the movie seem like a cheesy made for tv Lifetime drama. It doesn't wreck the film but it diminishes it some.

my mouth is open, jaw on the floor.

The music in this movie is awesome.

I thought most of the music was great, especially Bridge of Sighs at the end. I just wish they had played at least one Allman Bros song in the bar.

I hear you, brother.

An ABB song would have been great-Whipping Post. I think the music was really good in this movie and that was my era. I especially enjoyed the Johnny Winter version of Rock and Roll Hootchie Koo-perfection!

This movie was filmed in 90/91 and was supposed to take place in 74. What other music could they have used here, did you expect grunge or pop? You might not be a fan of the music from that era but this was exactly what they should have used. Personally I thought the music was perfect.

There were basically two types of music played in bars in the 70's. Blues and disco.

Disco was never big in redneck or biker bars, although it would have been very entertaining to watch what would have happened if somebody tried.

I think you missed the point on so many levels. Weather or not you appreciate the film’s music from the actual historic perspective of the storyline or not, is sort of irrelevant. As far as the time period of the screenplay, I feel the music is absolutely spot on. The songs and the artists who wrote them are and/or were at the forefront of the music business, and therefore indicative of the pop culture of the time. Very well done!
