I find it funny that this movie isn't more popular due to the fact...

That that legendary David Letterman/Crispin Glover interview is totally explained if the viewer is aware of this film. Crispin was obviously portraying Rubin during the interview and even again in 1990 he is still trying to covertly talk about this film and his character.

I see that interview with Letterman on many Top 10 lists of strange, yet not even in this films Wikipedia entry do they discuss the connection.

I like the fact that I accidently found out about this movie, and then had to dig a little to find it. That's the kind of things that make a true cult classic.

I only have ONE disappointment about 'the letterman interview' - Glover didn't connect with his kick.

Actually, that would have been bad for Glover, but oh so good for so many other people.

The guy (letterman) is a (yes, I know IMDB will bleep out the word, but you all know it... It rhymes with buck wheat)

hahaha, I was thinking the same thing! I've been sitting here trying to work it out in my head and can't think of anything that makes sense. Glad to see others were equally confused

That interview was in 1987, the movie came out in 1991. I think that the film makers couldn't decide what the character, Rubin, should look like and they probably wanted him to dress strange, so he just dressed up the way he did in the Letterman interview in 1987. Maybe Trent Harris saw the interview and that's what inspired him to cast Crispin as the Rubin character.

I don't want this film to get more popular, not even with all the younger film goers who are discovering older obscure films from the 80s and 90s. This crazy little film carries its own without being propped or resurrected by those who didn't see it when it was originally released.

i just watched the letterman interview....how dissapointingly boring

now is that cause im young and used to more shocking antics from celebs and back in the day it was more unusual?

or is it because iv seen this movie already? did they not know the movie was coming out back in the day? maybe it would be weirder if you dont know that glover is in character and he could possibly just have gone mental.

either way....i wouldnt advise anyone to rush over to youtube to see it, its really not worth it

It's weird how threads about the DVD get deleted on such an inactive board without newly started threads.

Do you own the DVD made and sold by the director?
I have wanted it for a long time, but am wary of the quality and price. I've e-mailed the website twice and gotten no response.

I own a copy of the DVD that's sold on Trent Harris' website. The quality isn't very good. It's a tad worse than you'd expect a VHS copy to look like now. The advantage of course is being able to play it on a DVD player. There are no frills, no extras...not even a menu, scene selection or setup features. Just the movie itself. It would be nice to see this get a professional DVD treatment one day with commentaries and extras. I honestly believe this will be rediscovered someday and find a wider audience.

Today we are used to shocking antics from celebs, but I doubt you will see that on mainstream network TV, especially when it comes across as real. Most of the "shocking" stuff is caught on video and then uploaded to the internet and/or shown on some gossip type TV show.
