“I may not make an honest buck...”

“... but I’m 100% American. I don’t work for no two-bit Nazi!”

EPIC.

In my mind, one of the greatest movie quotes. And man, in some ways is it relevant (it certainly was in the film’s time period). Easily my favorite thing Paul Sorvino (and honestly possibly any mobster character) has said in a movie.

Just watched the movie again, and I heartily agree: one of the best quotes and love Paul Sorvino's performance as Eddie Valentine.

I saw this in the theater, and everyone cheered at that line. Everybody also laughed when the mob guy and the G- man were on the same side during the gunfight.

I can't find the information but wasn't there a real life Mobster in the 40's who turned in one of his fellow criminals for collaboration?

reply

I'm sure this happened but doubt it had much to do with patriotism. Mussolini cracked down on the Sicilian mafia & made a lot of enemies in American organized crime. If you can find it, there's a movie about it titled Il Prefetto di Ferro.
