The worst thing about this movie

There's a lot to choose from, but if i had to pick one thing i would say: The ineptness of the Rocketeer, I know he's literally and figuratively learning on the fly, but even so its annoying and ruins the pace of the movie. I guess the Rockteer's clumsiness is supposedly an attempt at humor, but if it is, the humor falls flat, The Rocketeeer is his own worst enemy, turning difficulty into disaster, wherever he goes he wrecks everything, after a while this grates the nerves like fingernails scraping a chalkboard. We like our heroes like we like our drinks, cool and strong, and somewhat proficient at whatever it is they are trying to do, but this is one hero who more times then not needs rescuing himself.
The scene in the China Clun perfectly illustrates this point he goes to the club to rescue Jennifer Connely ( looking very tasty by the way) by the time he's done, the club is a wreck, and in flames., and i am pretty sure he injured quite a few people, and of course Jennifer Connely, you know, the girl he went to rescue, is kidnapped anyway. The scene wraps up with the Rocketeer trapped by gangsters, and looking up at the one piece of the club he hasn't destroyed, an expensive pane glass roof, and of course, seconds later the pane glass is shattered into a thousand pieces hitting the gas, as he escapes, the ruins of the club.
Indiana Jones, the Archetype the Rocketeer is trying to emulate, wrecked quite a few locations in his time, the only difference is he also left many intact.
Lets make this A rule of action movies going forward, Heroes are not suppose to be clumsy, leave that for the comic relief, Heroes save the day, and leave with their suit un-mussed and their tie's on straight.
the hole movie has the feel of a "Starter," movie for all involved.

He's a young, brash, jealous guy who has a rocket pack plopped into his lap. He hasn't exactly had any sort of training on how to use the gizmo, nor has he time to even think ahead too far when something happens, such as the rattle-trap plane suddenly being in trouble, or his need to escape Lothar at the club or risk getting broken in half by the killer. This is in keeping with the character in the comic book, who is strong-headed and doesn't want to listen to anyone, but who also has the qualities that turn him into a hero. The Rocketeer comes across as a real person, not some perfect hero who is selfless and never fails.

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

The reason Jennifer Connely gets captured is because she (quite predictable, btw) does NOT get into a cab and escape as he quite CLEARLY advised her to do, but rather goes BACK into the club and helps him out, and is caught in the clutches of the Nazi agent...

But as I pointed out, it was all so very predictable...despite this, the movie was still enjoyable.

How about:

1) Lothar, the typical unstoppable (until the end) henchman, and

2) the filmmakers (i.e. Disney) not being sure whether their intended audience was kids, adults, comic readers, pulp fans, or average ordinary movie-goers just looking for light entertainment. In trying to please everyone, they ended up pleasing very few.

While I consider this movie better than average and there are moments of true greatness, it could have been much better.

I see, you like your heroes in movies all polished and ready for action. It keeps things nice and simple. don't ever read or watch the animated video "Batman: Year One".

I disagree OP.

That to me was part of the charm of the character. He wasn't a badass who was always in control, he was a man wanting to do the right thing, and not getting it right 100% of the time.

I thought everything was very well balanced in this movie! I saw it at the age of nine and loved it, and still love it today!

Very few flaws in this movie, and while some people claim it was predictable, who cares? Of course the good guy was going to win and get his girl back, but could you all predict everything else that happened? I couldn't. I couldn't predict that Cliff's house would get blasted into Swiss cheese, or that the movie would end on a blimp in the sky, or that the rocket would get destroyed.

Great movie!
